Working Together to Supporting Local Charities

Partners Foundation and AppleCast Northwest have teamed up to provide more accessible equipment for wheelchair users. The partnership was able to raise funds to provide an electric bike for wheelchair users to access the facilities at AppleCast farm

Apple Cast, a charity based at Newburgh West Lancashire, supports people with physical disabilities and learning difficulties and young adults who have been excluded from school. The charity began in 2006 and was founded by Neil Farnworth.

AppleCast met with Partners Foundation through Lynda Gavin, whose son is a tenant of Partners Foundation. Lynda used a non-electric bike to take her son around the track at AppleCast however due to the conditions of the track and the weight of the wheelchair she struggled. She decided to get in contact with Partners and introduced them to AppleCast and due to similarities of both groups’ meetings took place to further develop a partnership

Neil, the founder of AppleCast, stated “We spoke about the problem of wheelchair accessibility and the standard of the equipment”

“Through these meeting it was agreed that Partners Foundation would fund 75 per cent with Applecast covering the 25 per cent to purchase the Velo Plus Electric Wheelchair bike.

“Since its arrival it has been used several times bringing happiness to service users.”

Michelle The Managing Director of Partners Foundation stated “Its great as an organisation to help not only our tenants, many of whom have disabilities, but the wider disabled community enjoy the brilliant facilities at AppleCast Farm”
