Most Fire Services offer to visit your home, to look around and assess the safety in and around your home. They will identify and make you aware of potential risks and what to do to reduce these risks.
You can organise a visit by contacting your local Fire Services or visit the website www.fireservice.co.uk/safety
In our supported accommodation we carry out our own Fire Risk Assessment which is done by a qualified person, we will share this with you and go through the recommendations to make sure your home is safe. We revisit these annually.
Electrical Safety
We use electricity every day in our home and we sometimes forget how dangerous it can be. Here are some tips to improve safety around your home, it is a good idea to check for these common faults/dangers:
Check for frayed or damaged leads
Tuck leads safely out of the way and keep them neat and tidy
If you have any cracked plugs, sockets and switches report them to us straight away
When using bulbs only use ones at or below the maximum wattage
Remember water and electricity do not mix – do not unplug or plug things in with wet hands, be careful if you spill water near or over appliances
Don’t overload sockets, too many plugs in one socket can be dangerous, overheat and cause fire
If you have any concerns about any of your electric or electrical appliances, please contact us on 01706 759330 or 01706 753678
Gas Safety
If you can smell Gas please ring us straight away 01706 759330 so that we can get someone out to check this or you can call the National Grid on 0800 111 999
If you think you have a gas leak then please do not smoke or light a naked flame or turn any electrical switches on.
Turn the supply off at the meter, the location of the meter will be on your Partners Foundation Contact Card.
You must never block any air vents to your gas appliances as this could block the fresh air needed for your appliance to work safely.
Gas Servicing
Most of our properties have some form of gas appliance installed and it is our responsibility to carry out annual gas service inspections for appliances owned by us. We will contact you and make the necessary arrangements to carry out this work.
It is important that you allow us prompt access to your home and allow our contractor to carry out the work. Failure to do so is a breach of your tenancy and more importantly a danger to your safety. You must ensure any gas appliances the you own are regularly maintained and serviced at least once a year.
