Last week, our team was proud to host a successful Macmillan Coffee Morning that brought our office together for a fantastic cause.
Our reception bay at the Wigan Investment Centre was transformed into a bustling hub of charitable activity as we sold a delectable array of baked goods. Thanks to the generosity of staff and fellow office workers, we smashed our fundraising goal, raising an impressive total of £360 in donations to support people living with cancer.
Who are Macmillan?
Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the UK’s largest and most crucial charities. They provide physical, emotional, and financial support to millions of people living with cancer, from the moment of diagnosis and throughout treatment and recovery.
Their work is comprehensive, covering everything from providing specialist nurses and running support lines to offering grants for those struggling with the unexpected costs of living with the illness. The Macmillan team ensures that no one faces cancer alone.
Why is it important that we have these coffee mornings?
For a social housing provider like us, the role of organisations like Macmillan is incredibly important. When cancer touches a household, it can exacerbate existing pressures, threatening tenancy stability and overall well-being.
Macmillan steps in to provide stability, comfort, and expert guidance. By supporting them, we help ensure that essential services are available to our community members when they face their toughest times. Their presence is a safety net for vulnerable individuals and families throughout the Wigan area and beyond.
Why do we do it?
We host the Macmillan Coffee Morning every year for two primary reasons: Community Spirit and Compassion.
Firstly, it’s a wonderful opportunity for our team to come together, contribute personal efforts, and build camaraderie. Secondly, it allows us to demonstrate tangible support for a cause that impacts so many lives.
The event at the Wigan Investment Centre saw our staff bake up a storm and sell cakes to other hardworking office staff in the building. We offered a magnificent mix of treats, from dainty, small teacakes perfect for a quick break to massive, indulgent slices of cake. The undisputed star of the show, earning the highest number of donations, was the huge chocolate cake, clearly the favourite amongst the variety!
What impact does this have?
The £360 we raised is more than just a number; it translates directly into hours of specialist support provided by Macmillan. For example, the money could help fund a Macmillan nurse for a significant part of a day, ensuring someone receives expert medical and emotional care when they need it most.
Every penny helps Macmillan continue their crucial services, making life that little bit easier for someone going through one of the hardest experiences imaginable.
